LEJOG Day 3 - Moretonhampstead to Glastonbury

Day 3
79 miles
1400m ascent

We're in Glastonbury!! Yes, that is my very own wooden igloo in a Hare Krishna vegan retreat.

We left Moretonhampstead with a couple of up then beautiful downhills, winding through thick deciduous forest, down into Exeter.

I had an exciting moment in a health food store in Exeter (yes, I am that sad). They sold such things as puffed quinoa coated in dark chocolate (!), and the vegan wagon wheels that I've been introduced to back home,.so.thought I'd educate Greg.

The rest of the day was spent cycling through nothing but green countryside, as we left Devon & crossed into cider country.
Broadhembury was noteworthy for its thatched cottages, & a moment spent petting a golden retriever named Amber (greg, again!). A lady then asked us to join in their group photo as they needed a 'community shot' to enter into a local photo competition!

After doing the biggest hill of the day, we had a lovely lunch spot overlooking Taunton, listening to Paolo Nutini & snacking on lentil chips & habanero nuts.

Finally Glastonbury was in sight! The old St Michael's tower was standing proud on Glastonbury tor in the distance. As we got closer & rode up the high street, we couldn't believe what we were seeing! Half of the pedestrians were in medieval clothing, the air was filled with the smell of incense, & the shops were ethical fairytale vegetarian dreams!

We pitched up at my vegan retreat, & went into town to taste some soft silky coconut chai ice cream  (seriously incredible).

He's a happy chap!

We got back & I ate my weight in lentils & various other grains, whilst greg made pasta. We also chatted to some lovely residents/volunteers of the retreat, one of whom grew up near me on the Wirral!

Well better get some rest before meditation at 0700. We'll also be meeting a top Spanish cyclist tomorrow thanks to my mental best friend! Ahh!
